Our Lore
In the murky, verdant swamps just beyond the urban sprawl of Amsterdam, where the city's lights begin to dim and the whispers of nature take over, there lies a tale of music, magic, and mutation known as the founding of Mutant Records.
Legend has it that in the late 20th century, a charismatic and visionary figure named NaNa The Ape, with an ear for beats that could charm the moon out of the sky, found himself lost in these swamps during a storm. As he wandered, his portable synthesizer in hand, he stumbled upon a forgotten boathouse, half-submerged in the water, its wood aged to a soft grey by the elements. Inside, he discovered an old record player, its needle still poised as if waiting for the right beat to dance upon it.
NaNa, soaked to the bone but undeterred, started to weave electronic sounds from his synthesizer, filling the boathouse with rhythms that seemed to resonate with the very swamp itself. As he played, strange lights began to flicker through the windows, not from lightning but from something otherworldly. The plants around the boathouse, sensing the music, began to shift and sway, their roots and leaves twisting into new forms, as if they were the audience at an underground rave.
That night, under the eerie glow of bioluminescent fungi and the curious eyes of nocturnal creatures, NaNa's electronic beats attracted other lost souls – DJs, producers, and dreamers who had felt out of place in the rigid society of Amsterdam. They were drawn by the music, each one touched by a kind of creative mutation, a unique gift that made them feel like outsiders.
Together, they decided to make this boathouse their haven, a place where their oddities could flourish. They named it Mutant Records, not just for the unconventional music they intended to produce but for the transformation they all underwent in that mystical place. The tracks they created were imbued with the essence of the swamp – beats that could evoke the sensation of stepping through waterlogged earth or the echo of a frog's song in the dead of night.
Over time, Mutant Records grew in legend and influence, its music spreading beyond the swamps. Each track was a piece of magic, carrying the soul of the swamp and the freedom of those who found solace there. The label became known for its experimental electronic sounds, its albums often featuring artwork of the swamp's flora and fauna, mutated into fantastical forms by the creative minds of its members.
To this day, if you wander into the right part of the swamp near Amsterdam, you might hear the faint pulse of electronic music, a reminder that in the heart of nature, where the city ends and the wild begins, Mutant Records continues to thrive, a beacon for those who seek to express their truest, most mutated selves through the universal language of electronic music.
